North Texas Region Rankings

The North Texas Region ranking system is based on tournament results with a weight-range assigned to each tournament division in conjunction with a process of evaluating head-to-head competition.  One of the purposes for this system is to provide a more objective ranking process with taking the burden of the 3-5 people that have historically provided input and assign the responsibility to the club directors or club coaches to input their results.

Tournament Weight-Range:
A "High" and "Low" weight is assigned to each division of every tournament.
Team averages from Regional Ranking Tournaments are used to evaluate and assign the strength of other tournaments.  This results in no team winning a tournament and being rewarded fewer points than their Ranking Tournament average. A team's tournament score is determined by their finish within the tournament in relation to the weight-range assigned to the tournament.

Head-to-Head Points:
The NTR results database keeps a match record for every team in the region verses every team they have played.  HTH points are determined from a team's overall (entire season) match record.

How It Works...
Assumption: Team A has an overall match record of 2 wins and 1 loss to Team B for the entire season; however, Team B has a higher tournament average.
1st Gyration...
Team A would be awarded 1.5 points for having a +1 match record (2-1=1) verse Team B.
This 1.5 HTH points is then added to Team A's tournament average (At the same time, 1.5 points is deducted from Team B's tournament average).  The tournament averages are recalculated with the revised scores and a new list is created.
2nd Gyration...
After the first gyration is complete the database runs the same HTH process again with the recalculated scores.  If Team B is still ahead of Team A in the rankings, then Team A will be awarded another 1.5 HTH points while deducting another 1.5 points from Team B.  If the 1st gyration results in Team A moving ahead of Team B, no HTH points would be rewarded in the 2nd gyration.
As a result, some teams may have 1.5 HTH points verses an opponent and some may have 3 HTH points (a team can have more if they have beaten the same opponent multiple times).

Frequently Asked Questions about Rankings:
- If we beat a team ranked above us, why do we still have 0 HTH points?
This could be for a number of reasons... perhaps you also lost to that same team.  If your overall record verses a team is tied then the HTH points for that team will be zero.  Another reason, perhaps the team that you beat was not ranked above you until the after the 2nd gyration.

- If we lost to a team ranked above us, why do we still have negative HTH points verses that team?
This means that the during one of the gyrations (or both) the team was ranked below your team and as a result of the HTH points they have now moved above you.
- I entered results for a tournament, but that tournament is not showing up in the Rankings Results.
This may happen for two reasons.  First, only "A" level divisions are looked at by the rankings database.  "C" level tournaments are not taken into consideration.  Second, the database only considers tournaments where tournament results can be verified.  If tournament results are not provided to the region and/or the committee, then those tournaments are taken out of consideration.
